If you can’t remember a time when greenkeepers supported one another, and when congruence was standard and exhibited, then you can only imagine how special our profession once was. It is our aim to make sure you don’t have to use your imagination, it is our aim to make this a reality again. We are :
An association for greenkeepers, run by greenkeepers
An association that uses your subscription for your benefit
An association whose benefits are bespoke to you and your continuous development and job security
An association that operates an “open book” policy, where nothing is withheld from its members
An association without rank or privilege, where the apprentice enjoys the same position as the course manager
An association that offers advice on education and law as a matter of course

Dear .....
I write to you today proudly as the the Chairman of The IGA (Independenant Greenkeepers Association).
When I became a greenkeeper at the tender age of 16, I was welcomed into an industry where job security, education and common decency from the golfer to the greenstaff were the norm.
Through education I learnt my trade and like all of us continue to learn on a daily basis as the evolution of our industry progresses at a fast rate of knots.
Through job security I bought my own house and raised two fine daughters. Through the rappore I enjoyed with the golfer, I gained the respect of the clubhouse for the work I produced for the members to enjoy.
THEN THINGS CHANGED, AND NOT FOR THE BETTER! Budgets are being cut, and therefore we are all working on a shoestring and having to make tough decisions daily! Job security is a thing of the past. We in the main are seen as grasscutters (sometimes moving targets for a golf ball!) and not the well educated, highly skilled custodians of the environment we know we are.
THE IGA ARE DETERMINED TO CHANGE YOUR WORKING DAY INTO THE JOB WE ALL LOVE, BUT WITH BETTER AMMUNITION ON YOUR SIDE! In the fifteen months since our inception we have had the support of just over three hundred commited members. We have the corporate backing of several multi-national companies. In 2008 we will deliver the following to members of THE IGA.
As a fellow greenkeeper, I ask you to consider the above and try the THE IGA for one year, if at the end of the year I have not delivered on my promises then please vote me out of the office I hold, as this association is run by greenkeepers for greenkeepers.
Together we can effect change, by yourself you are by yourself.
